Our Fleet
The Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway operates a steam locomotive which has significant historical and cultural importance to Red Cliffs.
Unique to Sunraysia, it is the only tourist steam locomotive in the area and one of the few small gauge railways throughout Australia.
The important role played by this train in the early days of Red Cliffs has endeared it to the locals. Now fully restored it is the only one of its type left in the world.
The Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway Inc. diesel locomotive “Harry” was built by EM Baldwin & Sons, Sydney in 1968. ‘
Harry’ is one of two locomotives built for the Tasmanian Hydro Authority as an underground loco. The last operating location was Mackay Sugar in Queensland and was used by the track maintenance department. ‘Harry’ is powered by a four cylinder Ford industrial diesel engine coupled to a Power Shift Twin Disc Transmission consisting of two forward and two reverse gears.
Acquired by the RCHSR in 2004, and extensively rebuilt by members this magnificent loco has been affectionately named ‘Harry’ after the late Harry Hill who was a tireless & dedicated member of the RCHSR. Harry spent 42 years with the Victorian Railways, 38 as an engine driver, and was honoured to drive the last steam train to leave Mildura on a scheduled service.

Our Carriages
Our two carriages are Pirlta and Morkalla named after the original first and last stations on the old branch line that went west from Red Cliffs. Our railway extends west on approximately 1.2Km along the original rail route. The track has been re gauged from broad gauge to two foot.
